Chief Adviser Professor Yunus Embarks on Egypt Visit for D-8 Summit
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus departed Dhaka early Wednesday for a three-day visit to Egypt to participate in the 11th D-8 Summit in Cairo.
The flight carrying Professor Yunus left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:20 am on Wednesday, according to the Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
The summit, themed “Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy”, will convene heads of government from member countries including Bangladesh, Indonesia, Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan on December 19.
Azad highlighted the significance of this year’s theme for Bangladesh, stating, “This summit is important as the Chief Adviser has consistently advocated for leveraging the strength and potential of youth since taking office.”
“He is committed to enabling the youth to realize their full potential, and this global forum provides an opportunity to advance that mission,” Azad added.
In addition to attending the summit, Professor Yunus is scheduled to deliver a lecture at Al-Azhar University in Cairo.
This week marks a pivotal moment for the D-8 Organisation, with the 48th Session of the D-8 Commission meeting already underway in Cairo. The schedule includes the 21st Session of the D-8 Council of Foreign Ministers on December 18, followed by the 11th D-8 Summit on December 19.
The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, comprising Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, aims to foster development cooperation, strengthen economic ties, and outline a shared vision for sustainable development among member states.
